About me
I am Teija Takkunen, a self-taught visual artist from Riihimäki. Making art has been my passion since childhood. I dreamed of becoming an artist when I was little, but I ended up studying to be an engineer. However, making art, especially acrylic painting, has been a part of my life over the years, sometimes more actively and sometimes more quietly.
In recent years, my need for self-expression through visual art has grown, and the feeling that this is truly my thing in this world has become stronger. As my children have grown, I have found more time for my art again. I want to share my work with others as well, because the purpose of art is to touch, delight, and evoke emotions.

I mainly paint acrylic paintings on canvas. I love colors and enjoy playing with their combinations. My work often has a semi-abstract, slightly dreamy, hazy atmosphere. From time to time, birds, animals or human figures appear in the paintings, subjects that inspire me. I get inspiration from nature and the world around me: the colors of autumn leaves, the shimmering snow or the smile on the face of a passerby.
Art is a way for me to bring beauty into the world, process emotions, calm down, and create. It is both an intuitive form of expression and a way to practice meditative focus.
I paint under the name twija. The name came about by accident, it's a misspelled version of my first name, but it immediately felt like my own. Twija means nothing, and that's why it can mean anything: a brushstroke on a canvas, a blend of colors, a palette of chance. It's a place where colors speak before words.
You can browse my finished paintings for sale in the " Buy art " section. I also paint commissioned works. If your dream is to have a unique abstract painting or a portrait of your loved one, contact me. Let's design a work that suits you together.
